lessons in humility

did i ever tell you about the time i went to a wedding with snoop dogg hair?  no?

i've been thinking about it today as i'm preparing to attend a friend's wedding tonight.  let me just start by saying, it was my first trip to the turkish kuafor (hair dresser), for the first turkish wedding i'd ever been to.  it happened shortly after i had moved here, and during a pretty awful time in my life, when i needed other people's help to put one foot in front of the other. during that time i would have done anything anyone told me to, and here's proof.  unfortunately, on this particular day, i was following the guidance of a friend who wanted to dress me up.

which led to this.
it's kind of hard bein' snoop d-o-double-g

honestly, i'm not sure how it happened.  i just remember asking a lot if this was really turning into something i wanted, and being told yes, just wait and see. at the end, the hairdresser didn't know what to do with the back, so he tied it.  in a knot.  or bow?  and then we were running late for the wedding, and i couldn't change it at that point.  and i had to wear this dress, this dress i didn't want to wear.  and when i looked in the mirror, i didn't recognize myself.  seriously.

with my mind on my money and my money on my mind

then ben shows up at the wedding (he arrived from antalya, hence my being under the care of others), and asked me what happened.  as in, that was his first reaction. and i started to cry.  i was entirely humiliated, and mind you, meeting some of ben's friends for the first time that night (they later told me how surprised they were when they saw me the second time).  i didn't get up from the table all night. didn't want to (ok, that's not true.  i wanted to crawl under the table, and wait it out.  but ben wouldn't let me).
pissed.

but the good news is?  i got through it! yaaaaay.  and i will never, ever, allow someone else to dress me up again.  and, whenever i need a good laugh, i can always scroll back through my pictures of the time i had snoop dogg hair.
