:: we've REpainted the den/guestroom. about 2 months ago we painted it what i'm now referring to as 'the initial green.' it was kind of limey-looking under a fluorescent light, and way too dark for ben's tastes. so, one more trip to bauhaus (that makes a count of... 467 so far? something like that) and we found the green of our dreams. this time it's more of a sage, light & airy, just what we never knew we really wanted. thank you, ben, for doing the labor on this project. i'm all painted-out for a while, but definitely up for the re-decorating part ; )
:: a friend has shared the secrets to the universe- or ankara, at least- in the form of an ex-pat's guide. it's something they circulate at the embassy, and though ben has a pretty solid knowledge of this place, there were still some pieces missing. like indian food, and the best hair salons... well, i have them all now in a handy-dandy guide. tonight we're trying the best (and only?) indian restaurant in ankara- owned by an aussi, no less- can't wait.
:: home-made pizza. same friend as above came for dinner & a movie on sunday night, and i couldn't think of what to make. finally it dawned on me that i'd been wanting to try pizza from scratch... and it was amazing, if i may say so myself. i think the key ingredient to the dough was honey (a recipe i found online). so easy, tasty, and fast... yet another triumph thanks to my 11-cup cuisinart (christmas gift that i'm convinced i COULD NOT live without). there is something about cooking from scatch that i have come to love-- and lucky me, living in turkey provides me with ample need to do it on a regular basis.
:: turkish, turkish, turkish. this week is no different in that i'm totally focused on TURKISH. we had a quiz today in class & i think i did alright. monday is the big test-- wish me luck.
