weekend on the coast

my dear friend verna arrived last wednesday & spent the latter part of the week exploring downtown ankara.  we took her out to taste some turkish fare on her first night.  on friday night we packed some bags & flew to antalya, where our friend serhat's driver met us at the airport & then drove us the 1.5 hours to serhat's house in alanya.  we arrived very late & immediately went to bed.

in the morning, we awoke to some clatter in the kitchen...
...it was serhat, preparing us breakfast!  what a nice surprise.

we stepped out onto  the back patio and were greeted by a beautiful, warm & sunny morning on the mediterranean.

good morning verna!

the breakfast was, of course, amazing.  you know- just a little omelette he whipped up, along with fresh fig jam (homemade by his mother, with figs from their fig tree), as well as fresh olives, tomatoes & olive oil (all from their garden), and some bread & cheese.

after breakfast serhat was eager to show off his new toy, and target practice commenced.

i was less interested in the toy and more interested in the roses - no surprise there.

after breakfast serhat headed to work - a busy weekend at the hotel as they prepared to open for their first tourists of the season this monday!  we took a walk around the property while we waited for our ride.
serhat's driveway - really!

we were able to borrow serhat's car and take a ride down the road to alanya, stopping along the way to see the sites.

we lunched on mezzes at a restaurant on the harbour.

after lunch we did some walking around the city, ate some ice cream, and then headed back to the house for a little r&r.

(which of course meant more shooting for the boys)

we headed back into alanya around 8pm where we had dinner at our favorite fish restaurant.  after dinner, serhat's brother invited us to stop by his place for a night cap.  his house is beautiful, high up in the hills of alanya, complete with a bar & recording studio in the basement (duh).

as soon as we discovered there was karaoke, verna and i got to work singing some tunes.  it was a really fun night.

the next day we packed up our bags & drove to belek where ben dropped verna and i at an all-inclusive resort for the night (he flew back to ankara & worked on monday, i took the day off!)

we stayed at a really different kind of resort.  definitely not my style, but the beach, pools & views of the med made it just bearable for the night!

verna got a taste of the med - though it was way too cold to swim!

we spent the better part of the afternoon pool-side on sunday.  monday was spent on the beach (a bit warmer that day), and ended at the spa.

yep, that cube is the hotel

nice views

on sunday night we checked out the bar - supposedly the largest hotel bar in the world - which was clad in tiny mirror tiles with lots of colored lights.  interesting.  i was in bed by 11pm.  all in all, a relaxing trip!
