broken in

yesterday morning when ben left for work he found the driver's side window to the car was lying on the grass, which seemed odd.

then he took a closer look and realized our car had been broken into, right in front of our building. turns out the thief was clever enough to know he'd set off the alarm if he unlocked the door & opened it, so he dove in after tearing out the window and rummaged through our car.

he didn't find much, was kind enough to leave me my secret stash of pregnancy pops, though he did take all of the spare change we keep in the ashtray (about 10 lira worth). he tried to extract the stereo system, but either couldn't or else he was interrupted while trying to yank it from the dash.

basically he left us with a mess, which ben spent most of yesterday dealing with. it's no biggie, as the repairs will be covered entirely by insurance, but it has left us without a car... for a week!

the policeman & forensic specialist who came to the scene (to dust for fingerprints of course!) didn't find anything. the cameras that were recently installed to enhance the building's security would have been a great help, had anyone thought to turn them on.
