the FOOD

if there's one thing i love about turkey, it's the FOOD!  and ben knows that.  henceforth, he took me for a birthday dinner at one of the best fish restaurants in ankara and it was delish!

some of the meze's (appetizers) included  smoked eggplant, squid and fava bean puree

sort of a turkish shrimp scampi- in butter with red pepper & herbs

ben calls this a 'fish ball.'  i'm pretty sure that's not the accurate title, but it fits none the less.  this was fish compressed with herbs & pine nuts.

this is fish that's finely chopped with a ton of spices-- it's a traditional turkish dish, though usually instead of fish they make it with cow intestines (i'm glad we had the fish version)
the main course- this is the fish that's currently in season.  i have no idea what kind since it's most likely from the black or aegean sea, and there is no equivalent for it in the us.  but as you can see, in turkey fish is served on the bone, and it's full of flavor.  it took a little getting used to but i can eat it like a pro now.
